30 Seconds To Mars
Band Bio30 Seconds to Mars was formed in LA by Jared and Shannon Leto. They'd been into playing and singing music all their lives, and the idea of performing in front of an audience appealed to both brothers. The band's name was taken from a book, which contained the idea that science had grown exponentially to leave man just '30 seconds to mars'. The brothers signed up Matt Wachter (now an ex-member) to play bass and keyboards. A couple of guitarists came and went, before Tomo Milicevic became a permanent fixture.
2002 saw the release of the bands first album, titled 30 Seconds To Mars. Two singles came from the album, Capricorn, and Edge of the Earth. But the album wasn't a huge mainstream success, and failed to catch the attention of music fans.
Three years later, the band then pulled off the difficult trick of producing a second album, not just as good as, but substantially better than the first. Released in 2005, A Beautiful Lie is just brilliant guitar-driven melodic rock.
In 2006, the band featured at Lollapalooza. Many reckoned them to be the best live act there, and this appearance was perhaps the major step forward in building a wider fan base.
Later that year, A Beautiful Lie went platinum (over 1 million sold) in 2006, confirming the commercial success of the band. Singles off the album include Attack, The Kill, From Yesterday and a Beautiful Lie.
In Dec 2009, 30 Seconds TO Mars released their third studio album, 'This is War'. To quote Jared,With This Is War, we felt like we were ready to transform as a band, to take that giant leap that so many groups we admire have done. The first single of the album, Kings and Queens, a soaring rock track with a totally epic video, announced the return of 30STM to center stage.
