Black Kids
Band BioBlack Kids' rise to fame began on August 11, 2007, when they performed at the Athens Popfest in Athens, Georgia. Their show was enthusiastically received, leading to attention from the rock press and blogs. Soon the band received coverage in NME, Vice, The Guardian, and The Village Voice, among others.
Black Kids' demo EP, Wizard of Ahhhs, was released by the band in August 2007 via free download on their official MySpace page. On October 5, 2007, the EP received a favorable review of 8.4/10 from Pitchfork Media, including a "Best New Music" commendation.
In October 2007 Black Kids participated in the CMJ Music Marathon in New York City, earning the band exposure in media outlets such as The New York Times, and USA Today. Rolling Stone dubbed Black Kids one of the ten best new bands for 2008.
On February 4, Pitchfork Media reported that the Black Kids have signed to Almost Gold Recordings for distribution outside of North America. Their first single, a newly recorded version of "I'm Not Gonna Teach Your Boyfriend How to Dance with You", was released on April 7, 2008 and debuted at #11 on the UK Singles Chart. The band performed the song on the first ever fully live broadcast of Later... with Jools Holland on April 1, 2008.
