Band BioCSS came together in 2003 in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Luiza, Ana, and Carole were studying art the university, Lovefoxxx and Ira (since left) were working in the fashion industry and Adriano (nearly 10 years older than the others) was creating jingles for TV ads. The band started almost as an art-school project. The name comes from a Beyonce quote (‘tired of being sexy’) which translates as Cansei de Ser Sexy.
Almost immediately the band were a popular live act in Sao Paulo. But the group’s music doesn’t fit into the Brazilian mainstream, and they have never become a major band in their home country.
Adriano worked on programming their first album at home on his laptop. A local record label released the record, but it met with little enthusiasm. According to Ana, total album sales in Brazil were ‘like 3000'. Then US label Sub-Pop picked up the release of the album internationally. The LP made it big - tracks include the phenomenally successful Let's Make Love and Listen to Death From Above..
The band’s second album Donkey came out summer 2008. The name comes from a Brazilian expression, meaning ‘you idiot’. Pre-released tracks from the record include Rat Is Dead (Rage), and Left Behind.
