Sebastian Inlet, Florida
DescriptionA wild, unspoilt beach over 3 miles long fronting the Atlantic ocean. The beach is split by two jetties, which protect the inlet which connects the ocean to the Indian River lagoon. The jetties are great to stroll along, and even better to fish from. The area is in the middle of 'Treasure Coast', so named because of the wrecking of a great Spanish treasure fleet in 1715 just offshore (you can even visit the nearby McLarty Treasure Museum). The ocean is often too rough for swimming, as the waves can get large and powerful. The surf breaks near the 2 Sebastian Inlet jetties are very popular with surfers. But if you fancy a swim, just walk a short way to the placid waters of the Indian River Lagoon to the west.

Why in 100 Best?
The beach manages to retain its wildness, but there's a lively feel, and lots to do.
