Bath

The only 3 hot springs in England have always made Bath a popular place. The Romans constructed a very complicated bathing complex on top of the springs. 1700 years later, the town reached its heyday in Georgian times when it became a very fashionable place to live and to visit. During this time all the famous landmarks were constructed, including the Theatre Royal, Royal Crescent, the Circus, Pulteney Bridge and Lansdown Crescent.

It's easy to visit Bath's attractions on foot. Start at the Roman Baths, and test the temperature of the water for yourself. Adjoining the Baths are the Pump Rooms, the place for formal dances and dinners in Georgian times. Drink a glass of spring water and enjoy(?) its mineral taste.

Then walk over to the Abbey. Notice the carvings on the front, of Angels climbing up and down a ladder to heaven. The angels climbing down go head-first!

Walk across Pulteney bridge, which has shops both sides. There are beautiful views across the river and city to the hills behind.

Visit the circus, a circle of terraced houses, built in 1754. Notice the 528 friezes along the houses representing the Arts .

Finish with the Royal Crescent, completed in 1767. This is a curved sweep of majestic terraced houses designed on a grand scale.
