Kingdom Of HeavenPlot The year is 1184. Balian is persuaded by his father, Godfrey, to erase the trajic memory of his dead wife by joining the Crusades. In Jerusalem there is a fragile peace between Muslims and Christians. This peace is kept by King Baldwin, who even hangs Templars for murdering Muslims. King Baldwin is racked by leprosy, wearing a bright white mask. The illness eventually kills him, and the Templars grasp the opportunity to incite the Muslim Saracens into laying seige to Jerusalem. By now Balian is effectively in charge of the defences of the city. Balian musters the crusaders to fight the enormous odds against them. |
