Lawrence Of Arabia
PlotIt's World War I. Lawrence is a British Army lieutenant in Northern Africa. He's rude to his superiors, eccentric in his behaviour, but he has an incredible knowledge of the native Bedouins.
He is sent on a fact-finding mission to Prince Feisal of Arabia, who is a central figure in the insurrection against the occupying Turks. Lawrence finds him, and suggests a bold plan to take the Turkish held port of Aqaba, a plan that involves an impossible march across the burning, waterless, Nefud Desert.

Why in 100 Best?
The characterisation of the egotistical, eccentric, but brave and intelligent Lawrence is quite superb, as are the wonderful panoramas of the unforgiving desert sands.
