The Couple
PlotMartin Landeau plays an older gentleman who gives up all his wealth to save his family and his employees from the Nazis and send them to Switzerland. Story of his most trusted house servants, a young couple who were left behind. No sex or violence, family friendly, but full of suspense. The period costume, the attention to detail on the sets, the acting were all first rate. Great story telling. We only found one copy at Movie Gallery so apparently it did not get much press. Highly recommended.

Why in 100 Best?
Based on real life stories of wealthy Jewish families that were able to buy their way out of the Holocaust. This movie raised my blood pressure. It was frightening but without any onstage violence or explicit sex which is rare in a modern movie. Acting was great. Martin Landeau was terrific.
