The Railway Children
PlotEdwardian London. A family's Christmas day is shattered when two officials visit and, for reasons which are not fully explained to the children, take away the father. A few weeks later the father still has not returned, and the childrens' mother announces that they must all move to the countryside to make ends meet.
They move into a small rural cottage, the 'Three Chimneys', and life at first seems cold and miserable. But the children, Bobbie, Phyllis and Peter find that a railway line runs past the field next to their new home. They spend the endless summer days playing, watching the trains, and visiting the friendly stationmaster at the nearby station. Bobbie never doubts that her father is innocent of the wrong-doings he's charged of, and, happily, the railway delivers an opportunity for her to intervene on his behalf.
